Royal baby Archie christened in private Windsor Castle ceremony

Meghan and Harry, seated on a couch, hold little Archie in his christening gown - the same one that his cousins, Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte, wore. Their son, Archie, was baptised wearing the handmade replica of the royal christening gown which has been worn by royal infants for the last 11 years.

It's a replica of one that Queen Victoria commissioned for her daughter Victoria Adelaide Mary Louisa in 1841.

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan released an intimate black and white portrait and them with their son to their official Instagram account soon after the christening.

In a touching acknowledgement, Diana's two older sisters, Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, were also included into the family group.

The names of Archie's godparents were not released by Harry and Meghan and remain a mystery.

Harry, whose mother Diana was pursued by paparazzi until her death in a Paris vehicle crash in 1997, has long had a tense relationship with the media.

The royal couple's decision sparked controversy in part because of the recent revelation that their Windsor home was renovated with £2.4 million ($3.9 million Cdn) of taxpayers' money.

In the photo, the proud parents sat in the middle, with Markle holding Archie, due to Queen Elizabeth's absence.

Egypt vs. South Africa - Football Match Report
Egypt could not muster a response as they failed to reach at least the semi-finals at a home tournament for the first time. South Africa will face Nigeria in last eight after the Super Eagles earlier saw off Cameroon 3-2 in a five-goal thriller.

In 1997, Harry's mother - Princess Diana - was tragically killed in a vehicle crash in Paris. Where she isn't: At her great-grandson Archie's christening.

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were reported to have arrived at the ceremony by helicopter and Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, also attended.

The Duke and Duchess' close friends and family members will also be attending the ceremony, although the Queen, who is Archie's grandmother, is said to be missing out on Archie's big day because of other commitments.

While this could be the reason for her breaking multiple fashion rules, she has done it again and this time it was at her son's christening.

Later this year, both couples are set to head off on overseas tours, with the Wills and Kate set to tour Pakistan and Harry and Meghan jetting to South Africa.

The snaps were taken by fashion photographer Chris Allerton in the Green Drawing Room at Windsor, the same room where Harry and Meghan took some of their wedding pictures past year.

The silver baptismal Lily Font was commissioned by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1840 and has been a feature of royal christenings since its use in the baptism of their first child Victoria, princess royal.

Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, welcomed baby Archie on May 6.
