Reggae Boyz suffer Gold Cup loss to USA

Christian Pulisic netted two second-half goals against Jamaica in the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals, helping the U.S. clinch a spot in the final against Mexico. In a match that was delayed more than a half an hour in the first half due to weather, Christian Pulisic scored twice and Weston McKennie added another in a 3-1 victory that puts the USA on the verge of repeating and coach Gregg Berhalter potentially just days away from his first ever title as a manager.

It is hard to dispute that McKennie and Pulisic were the stars of the Wednesday's match, and they showed all the qualities that have US fans so excited for the future. Altidore didn't score, but he was key on the opening goal by McKennie, using his strong body to shield off a defender.

FC Dallas fullback Cannon crossed into the area, and after the ball rolled past Jozy Altidore, McKennie swept home.

Weston McKennie first scored for the U.S. in the ninth minute.

On Sunday, it will be the dream matchup in the Gold Cup final.

After McKennie's early opener, Wednesday's game was stopped for one-and-a-half hours due to lightning, but US were not to be denied when the clash resumed in the 16th minute, with Pulisic doubling the lead seven minutes into the second half. Blake parried it away, but it went right into the path of Pulisic, who couldn't miss from five yards out.

US coach Gregg Berhalter said his side were not put out of their stride by the weather delay.

It was a rematch of the 2017 final won by a Bruce Arena-led US and the hosts burst out of the blocks and were relentless in attack, with Jamaica goalkeeper Andre Blake preventing a certain goal by somehow denying Paul Arriola from point-blank range in the fourth minute.

United States of America overcame a 90-minute weather delay and a spirited Jamaica side to move through to Sunday's decider against Mexico in Chicago. Pulisic got his second goal in the 87th, giving the 20-year-old 13 goals in 30 worldwide appearances. The Reggae Boyz were trying to reach their third straight Gold Cup final following loses to Mexico in the 2015 championship game and the U.S shutout streak. Zardes turned the ball over in his own half and after the ball made its way to Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, Bailey delivered a great cross that Shamar Nicholson headed home to make it 2-1.
