Woman in Florida leaves US$5K tip as revenge on boyfriend

ABC News reports that in her heated state, Wolfe added a $5,000 (over R70,000) tip to her $55.37 (over R700) bill while she was at a cafe in Clearwater, Florida state.

Serina Wolfe, 24, of Buffalo, was charged with grand theft after she put the gratuity on her bill at the Clear Sky Beach Cafe in Clearwater, Fla.

Serina Wolfe, 24, was reportedly angry with her boyfriend when she used his credit card to treat herself to a $79 meal.

An employee at Clear Sky Beachside Café told Wolfe was dining alone when she completed the transaction.

Wolfe was arrested and charged with grand theft, and it's unclear if the waitress will be able to keep the money.

Crane had placed a hold on his credit card after the two fought but later removed the hold, according to the newspaper.

Once the boyfriend, Michael Crane, noticed the charge, he confronted Wolfe, authorities said, who denied leaving the tip.

According to the complaint, the restaurant had already turned over the generous tip to the waitress. Police said she was trying to get revenge on her boyfriend. It was notified of the fraudulent paymnt on July 1.

Wolfe had just eaten breakfast and left the tip at 9:30 a.m., according to an arrest affidavit. After being read her Miranda rights, which include a warning that 'anything you say can and will be use against you in a court of law, Wolfe 'voluntarily handed [the arresting officer] the card 'and said this is the one I used to pay the $5055.37 tab, ' the arresting affidavit read.
