MACC chief Latheefa confirms arrest of Najib's stepson, Riza Aziz

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday arrested Riza Shahriz Abdul Aziz, the stepson of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, said MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya.

She said Riza would face charges under the Anti-Money Laundering and Prevention of Terrorism Financing Act (AMLA) 2001.

The charges Riza will face are believed to be related to Red Granite Pictures receiving funds allegedly siphoned off from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), various reports earlier yesterday wrote.

Riza, who is the son of Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor from a previous marriage, was questioned by the MACC for a total of 22 hours over several days in July past year in a probe on 1MDB.

The missing money also helped finance Riza's movies, authorities say.

Prosecutors alleged Riza received a total of $248 million as a result of misappropriation of 1MDB funds.

Mr Aziz's stepfather and mother have both been charged with corruption.

Halle Bailey is best known for singing alongside her sister Chloe , with the duo being appropriately called Chloe x Halle . She and her sister have also supported Beyoncé during her tours and made cameo appearances in the visual album Lemonade .

The three-hour movie was named by the US Department of Justice in its civil forfeiture suits to recover billions of dollars stolen from 1MDB.

Riza co-founded the Hollywood company Red Granite Pictures, and United States officials allege that it was bankrolled by huge sums of pilfered 1MDB cash. The new government reopened investigations that were stifled while Najib was in office.

"We would like to confirm that the MACC has arrested Riza Shahriz Aziz at 12 noon today and he has been released on bail". His wife Rosmah Mansor is also charged with money laundering and tax evasion.

After unexpectedly losing an election to Mahathir Mohamad in May previous year, Najib has been slapped with a series of corruption charges, mostly tied to losses at now-defunct 1MDB.

Najib is now on trial for alleged criminal breach of trust, abuse of power, and money laundering linked to 1MDB.

Red Granite paid the USA government $60 million in September 2017 to settle a civil forfeiture claim over the rights to "The Wolf of Wall Street".
