"It's also possible that the delay in rolling out 5G will benefit Vodafone, as it has had time to be tested and perfected by EE and they also get to undercut them by offering customers more, for less". Hatch allows gamers to play instantly with no downloads, updates, ads or in-game purchases to interrupt gameplay - all powered by 5G. Previously announcing plans to have 5G across 19 cities in the United Kingdom in 2019, it will also launch in Southampton, Blackpool, Bournemouth, Guildford, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Reading, Newbury, Wolverhampton, Birkenhead, Stoke-on-Trent and Warrington by the end of the year.

There is little doubt that 5G has been a costly affair for the operator, and in May Vodafone slashed its dividend payouts to investors for the first time since it began the payments in the 1990s, as a direct result of heavy expenditures to buy 5G spectrum licences in Germany and Italy.

Vodafone switched on its 5G network in seven British cities Wednesday, aiming to set itself apart in its home market from rival EE by offering unlimited data plans that include the high-speed service at no premium.

Vodafone says it can offer its customers unlimited data thanks to its investment over the last few years in a single all-fiber network called RedStream. These offer unlimited voice minutes and larger data allowances: Red 1 with 1GB for GBP 11 per month, Red 2 with 5GB for GBP 15, and Red 3 with 20GB for GBP 20 per month.

The second plan (Vodafone Unlimited) will cost £26 per month and offer speeds of up to 10 Mbps (megabits per second).

Pricing is slightly more expensive for the Galaxy S10 5G with the cheapest plan coming with 5GB of data and costing £62 per month.

Rob Baillie, mobile communications expert at, said: "Despite lagging behind EE by over a month - with their customers able to get 5G from 30th May - Vodafone is hoping that today's announcement will outshine its competitor". This will enable small businesses to purchase productivity and security apps direct, paying via their monthly mobile bill.
