Man United offers to make De Gea highest paid goalkeeper

Manchester United have made an improved offer to David De Gea in an attempt to finally agree upon a contract extension, it is understood.

De Gea has been offered a deal worth a whopping £350,000-a-week to stay at United.

With PSG and Juventus both understood to be lurking about, the goalkeeper seemed to be as close as ever from exiting United.

If De Gea chooses not to sign a new contract at United he would become a free agent next summer.

According to the Daily Mail that deal for the 28-year-old will be for £350,000-a-week for the next five years, netting him a huge £91 million during the duration of the contract.

It remains to be seen if De Gea will accept the new offer from the club.

De Gea now earns £240,000-a-week and wants to earn similar to top earner at the club Alexis Sanchez due to how important he is to the team.

"As we've told you the situation has been extremely open in the sense that United have gone as far as making a bid for the Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana as a potential replacement for De Gea because they were unsure whether they were going to be able to retain him this season". However, the BBC report states that the club's current strategy is to continue negotiating into the new season, hoping he eventually signs on even at the risk of losing him on a free.

The Spaniard came within a minute of leaving Manchester United for Real Madrid in 2015, but has remained one of the very few consistent performers at Old Trafford in recent years.

De Gea made 47 appearances for United in all competitions last season.
