Julian Castro moves into top five in new poll

Quinnipiac's latest poll is one of several released since last week'sfirst Democratic presidential debate - an event in which Biden faced an intense grilling from Harris over his record on race - that shows a boost for Harris, while Biden's lead over the field was found to be shrinking.

In another measure, intended participation is high: Seventy-two percent of leaned Democrats say they're certain to vote in their state's primary or caucus.

It found that Harris only received about five percent support among those who didn't watch. Warren also made gains in the CNN poll, from 8 points to 15 percent, while Sanders was down 4 points to 14 percent.

-Support for USA senator Kamala Harris rose 4 percentage points to 10 percent - the most of any of the 20 candidates seeking nomination.

Harris received a 9 point increase in the new poll, reaching a total of 17 percent, while Warren had an increase of 8 percent, totaling 15 percent support. According to the poll, four out of 10 respondents indicated they thought he did worse during the debate than expected.

An impact is apparent: among the half of leaned Democrats who did not watch either of the two nights of debates, just 5% support Harris for the nomination.

Twenty percent of Democrats surveyed in a Quinnipiac poll published on Tuesday said they backed Harris, a former California attorney general who aims to be the first black female U.S. president. But among those who did watch the debates, her support jumps up to 20 percent.

In the average of upwards of 20 polls tracked and aggregated by RealClearPolitics, Harris is in the third position, with Sanders still holding the No 2 slot, only by 1.4 points.

Even the mainstream media is reporting that Biden's numbers are slipping while Harris and Elizabeth Warren are both rising after the DNC debates.

The survey included 460 Democrat and Democratic-leaning voters and was carried out June 28-July 1.

Despite his fall in popularity, Biden was nevertheless seen by respondents in the Quinnipiac poll as the candidate with the best chance of beating Trump next year.

A letter has been revealed that was written by Joe Biden in 1977 to Senator James Eastland, a known segregationist, thanking Eastland for helping with his "anti-busing" legislation.

"There was a little girl in California who was a part of the second class to integrate her public schools and she was bused to school every day", she had continued.

Biden however, has run for President three times now, but has never come close to going the distance.
