Transfer: Frank Lampard leaves Derby County

Frank Lampard is set to make some sweeping changes when he becomes Chelsea manager, and will look to merge the club's academy with the senior team in order to encourage talent development.

But luckily for him, the former midfielder has a rich vein of young talent to help him at Stamford Bridge.

On Monday, Derby gave Lampard an initial two days of authorised leave to complete the move.

It is also reported Lampard will ask youth coaches at Chelsea to vary and switch around the times of their training sessions, allowing him to watch the action before or after he takes care of first team duties.

The 20-year-old wowed onlookers with 11 goals and six assists for the Rams and could well get his chance to shine at Stamford Bridge while Ruben Loftus-Cheek recovers from injury.

Lampard won three Premier League titles and the Champions League as a player at Chelsea and is favourite to replace Maurizio Sarri, after the Italian joined Serie A champions Juventus.

Championship side Derby County have announced Frank Lampard has left his managerial post to become the new boss of Premier League side Chelsea.

Mel Morris, the Derby owner, reasoned that the same would be true when he appointed Lampard last summer and he was delighted with how that played out.

Ex-Chelsea captain John Terry said there is "no one better equipped" to manage the club than his former team-mate.

It was also revealed this morning that he had been excused from pre-season training, with the Derby players returning from their holidays on Monday.

Although everything appears to be in place for Lampard to implement this untried philosophy, Petr Cech - now a technical and performance advisor at the club - insists a final decision hasn't been made.

The former England midfielder has had permission to speak with the Europa League winners since last Tuesday.
