CNN reports that CBP's internal affairs office and the Department of Homeland Security Office of the Inspector General are reviewing posts from the Facebook group.

Crowds of people gathered chanting "close the camps" in New York, Chicago, Indianapolis and San Francisco, including outside the offices of USA senators and representatives.

A report from an internal United States watchdog has found "dangerous overcrowding" in migrant detention centres in the south and urged authorities to act. The report also said that to get out of overcrowded holding tanks - some of them so packed that migrants all have to stand - some migrants have used mylar blankets and socks to clog the toilets so they will be removed from their cells while the toilets are fixed.

The investigation comes amid public scrutiny of the CBP following reports of unsanitary and inhumane conditions at a Border Patrol facility housing migrant children, and last week's resignation of the head of CBP, John Sanders.

Rodriguez said that he "found no soiled diapers, no deplorable conditions and no lack of basic necessities" and that border agents "unequivocally denied" that they staged the conditions inside the facility to make things look better: "We were witnessing the identical conditions the attorneys saw when they toured the facility days earlier".

Immigrant advocates blame the Trump administration for refusing to promptly release families, children and people seeking asylum, leading to increased numbers of people detained.

Of those 3,400 detainees, 1,500 were held for more than 10 days.

Eighty-eight adult males held in a cell with a maximum capacity of 41.

"Border Patrol was holding about 8000 detainees in custody at the time of our visit, with 3400 held longer than the 72 hours generally permitted", she said.

"Similarly, when Rep. Ocasio-Cortez refers to CBP facilities as concentration camps. she does nothing to improve the political discourse".

US Border Patrol agents are searching the Rio Grande River for a missing 2-year-old girl. Most single adults had not had a shower despite several being held as long as a month. "So you had these rules that had been in the facility - it's either Department of Homeland Security or Health and Human Services - they are imposing two-week requirements, you have to seek a waiver, they don't want to do it except when they can fly in special minders to control everything you do while you're there".

"These do not represent the thoughts of the men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol", Hastings said.

After migrant arrests reached a 13-year monthly high in May, immigration has arguably become the biggest issue for Trump and Democratic hopefuls vying for the 2020 presidential election.

Senator Corey Booker said that "this report is nothing short of horrific".

The detention facilities "will shock the conscience of this country", Democratic White House contender Beto O'Rourke said after a visit to a migrant centre. Some women, she said, told her they were forced to drink out of the toilet when the faucet in their cell broke. "So Border Patrol, they're patriots, they're great people".

After visiting the border, Ocasio-Cortez and the other representatives went to Clint, the site of another Border Patrol center with reports of children being treated like animals.

The Kansas congressman's assessment was strikingly different from the conclusions from a group of Democrats who this week visited separate facilities in the El Paso area, more than 700 miles west of the facilities Marshall toured in the McAllen area.

Rapinoe garnered national attention after saying, 'I'm not going to the f*****g White House, ' when asked if she would accept Trump's invitation if US wins the World Cup. "I know that the Border Patrol is not happy with the Democrats in Congress", he said.
