US Vice President Pence cancels event, called back to White House

US Vice President Pence cancels event, called back to White House

The White House had said earlier that he would be taking part in a roundtable discussion with former patients at Granite Recovery Center, a rehab facility in Salem. "It's no cause for alarm", his spokeswoman Alyssa Farah said in a statement. After that, he was expected to give a speech "on the opioid crisis and illegal drug flow in New Hampshire" before heading back to Washington, D.C. later in the evening.

Officials would not even provide clarity on whether or not Pence was already midair in Air Force Two when he was called to return.

Pence's chief of staff, Marc Short, told Reuters there was no emergency after news reports that the vice president's plane was called back for an "emergency".

One senior administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the situation, said the issue was not national security-related.

Aston Villa swoop for Targett
Southampton , who spent a reported £15 million ($19m) on Adams, have also sold left-back Targett to Villa for around the same fee. Southampton have announced that Matt Targett has agreed a permanent move to Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.

"The [Vice President] never left Washington, DC. We'll reschedule NH shortly", Farah tweeted.

Update 1:41 p.m.

"So thankful everyone on our plane is safe", Pence said on Twitter after the incident.

White House officials said Air Force 2 did not land as planned in New Hampshire midday Tuesday as it was diverted back to Washington.

The announcement in New Hampshire set off panic at the White House, where Pence was observed entering the West Wing.
