"Content more important than ever", Sony look at buying another developer


Should this become more than a consideration, it will see Sony acquire more developers for its first party portfolio, meaning more studios working on PlayStation exclusive games.

Sony is reportedly preparing the PlayStation 5 to be the best gaming console ever, complete with big-budgeted blockbuster exclusives. A new report gives us insight into the strategy for one of them, as anonymous Sony officials spoke about which companies are competitors to the PlayStation and which games are the focus for next-gen console. When you look at the PlayStation 4's list of exclusive games and their commercial success, it's hard to disagree.

Microsft's Xbox division may be behind in its first-party offerings this generation, but they have at least acquired a bunch of studios in recent years.

Sony Interactive Entertainment, a USA multinational video game and digital entertainment company, is reportedly looking to acquire a bunch of game development companies, according to sources.

The event will be open to the public free of charge, apart from a ticketed area for VIPs in front of the Lincoln Memorial. The group, Code Pink, got approval from the National Park Service to have the balloon present between 4 a.m. and 9 p.m.


Rumours of Sony buying EA or Rockstar have been floated in the past year or so, neither or which would seem likely, EA would be a massive headache as Federation Internationale de Football Association and Disney wouldn't be pleased when their games are limited to one console. Microsoft has secured a collection of studios like Obsidian, Ninja Theory, and inXile, and will likely be cultivating relationships with developers that have even lower profiles.

Ryan also talked about the importance of cloud services and game streaming for the next generation, speaking about Sony's partnership with Microsoft to develop a cloud streaming service for PlayStation users.

One more exciting bit of information from the interview is about the profitability of hardware. "The profit margin has steadily increased in the past few years, and I am optimistic that it will continue in the future". "We have a small team there, but I think we can do more".
