Trump said Erdogan should not be blamed for Obama's failure.

The White House said Trump "expressed concern" over the S-400 deal and "encouraged Turkey to work with the United States on defence cooperation in a way that strengthens the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation alliance", while the Turkish presidency said Trump had voiced a desire to resolve the dispute without harming bilateral ties.

"So (Erdogan) goes out, he goes to Russian Federation, and makes a deal for the S-400", Trump said. "He's paid a tremendous amount of money upfront to Lockheed".

Relations between the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies have become strained. "And he bought it". The US and other North Atlantic Treaty Organisation members fear Russian Federation could spy on North Atlantic Treaty Organisation aircraft through the S-400 system. "And I don't think he was treated fairly".

Trump also said he would visit Turkey, but added that a date had not been set yet.

Trump said that they are looking at "different solutions".
