Syria Says Four Killed in Israeli Missile Strikes

The missiles were launched from the Lebanese airspace, where Israeli aircraft were spotted making low-altitude flights around the time of the incident, according to TV-channel Al-Mayadeen, Al-Masdar News and other regional sources.

Israel has launched air strikes at military positions of Syrian government forces near Damascus and in the central province of Homs, Syria's state-controlled media reports.

The airstrikes also knocked out military targets affiliated with the Lebanese Hezbollah "in the barren mountains of Qara and Felita", causing fires, the result of explosions from ammunition warehouses.

Syria accuses Israel of supporting the terror groups in Syria by its repeated strikes.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitor, said the air attacks hit several Iranian positions near Damascus and a research center and a military airport west of the city of Homs where the Hezbollah Shiite movement and Iranians are deployed.

One of the pro-regime fighters killed was Syrian, while the rest were of other nationalities, Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

An Israeli military spokeswoman refused to confirm details about the attack.

Israel says it is determined to prevent Iran from entrenching itself militarily in Syria, where Teheran backs President Bashar al-Assad.

Near Damascus, a base hosting the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) and a research facility in Jamraya were struck. It periodically attacks what it says are threats to Israeli security in Syria.

Meanwhile, Israel has conducted hundreds of airstrikes in Syria throughout the eight-year conflict, majority against what it says were targets of Iranian-backed militia groups such as the Lebanese Hezbollah.
