AntiFa brutally assault journalist during Portland protest

Some protesters hurled "vegan" milkshakes while others threw "milkshakes" with water and quick-drying cement, according to Portland police. At least eight people, including three police officers, were injured in Saturday's clashes.

An hour later the counter-protesters began marching towards Pioneer Courthouse Square, as police stood still warning both camps to observe order and stressing that the city did not issue permits for either of the rallies. Police responded to the demonstrations by cordoning off various intersections and preventing the groups from clashing.

"To federal law enforcement: investigate & bring legal action against a Mayor who has, for political reasons, ordered his police officers to let citizens be attacked by domestic terrorists", Cruz wrote on Twitter Sunday.

"Demonstration events are very fluid in nature and the management of these events is complex", Assistant Chief Chris Davis said in a statement. Pepper spray was also used by cops and demonstrators.

Andy Ngo, who describes himself as an editor at the conservative website Quillette and says he is "hated by antifa", said on his Twitter feed that he was attacked by anti-fascist protesters and had to be taken to the hospital to treat injuries to his face and head.

The violence erupted almost a year to the day after Patriot Prayer and anti-fascist activists clashed in the city, noted Oregon Live.

Police said they would be conducting more arrests if necessary after reviewing video from the event.
