Rejected by Woman at Party, He Shot Her Baby in Head: Cops

Her mother, 18-year-old Deziree Menagh, had pulled away as a man she'd met a week earlier, 23-year-old Marcos Echartea, tried to hold her hand at the party.

Dryer said Menagh stopped at a house party in Fresno around 4 a.m., when she was approached inside the home by Echartea, KMPH reports. As they went to park the vehicle, Menagh and the driver noticed Echartea headed toward them. Before they could do anything, he allegedly pulled out a handgun and "fired multiple rounds into the driver's window" of the auto, hitting the poor, defenseless 10-month-old baby on the side of her head while she was sitting in her mother's arms. The blasts hit Fayth in the side of her head as she sat on her mother's lap in the passenger seat.

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer described Echartea as having "no regard for human life, even a baby".

Along with three attempted murder charges, Echartea faces a host of other felonies including assault with a firearm, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, discharging a firearm at an occupied dwelling, discharging a firearm in a negligent manner, endangering and causing injury to a child and conspiracy to commit assault with a firearm.

Dyer says a gun was found and is now undergoing ballistic testing to determine if it was the one used in the shooting.

HEARTLESS: This is 10-month-old baby Fayth Percy. She didn't want that attention from Echartea, so after a while, she grew exhausted of it and chose to leave.

Guns N' Roses Drummer Steven Adler Hospitalised
The band is now touring - without Adler , of course - selling out shows for their throwback Not In This Lifetime tour. Adler publicly struggled with drug addiction, which ultimately led to his departure from Guns N' Roses in 1990.

Menagh and her friend had made it just a few blocks away when they noticed Echartea walking towards the auto, Dyer said. "One of those rounds struck baby Fayth on the side of the head as she was being held by her mother", Dyer said.

"In fact, when our detectives brought him downtown, he had no remorse", Dyer said.

This isn't the first time Echartea has had a run-in with the law. During his attack, he nearly hit a one-year-old baby.

The man is now facing additional felony counts, including assault with a deadly weapon, related to the previous shooting as well. He will appear in court later this week, the Los Angeles Times reported. A family friend told KSEE that the surgery had gone well, but the baby's brain was swelling.

"I know the parents are broken", Dyer told the Bee. If the window were down, the baby may have been killed, according to Dyer.
