During his remarks before the bilateral meeting with the Saudi prince, Trump said the United States would be in a war with North Korea if he was not elected.

As he left the White House for Asia earlier this week, Trump was asked whether he'd meet with Kim while he is in the region.

And in May during a visit to Japan Mr Trump described Mr Kim as a "very smart guy" and said he expected "a lot of good things" to come out of North Korea.
