House Panel Demands WH Say What Happened to Trump-Putin Notes

Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump will have an hour-long meeting on the sidelines of a G20 summit on June 28 in Osaka in Japan, a Kremlin aide said on Wednesday, in their first official encounter for nearly a year.

Trump is set to arrive in Osaka on Thursday to take part in the summit, which is scheduled to be held on the following two days.

Trump's agenda does not now include any formal meetings with leaders of Latin American countries who will also attend the summit, such as Argentinian President Mauricio Macri, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro or Mexican Foreign Affairs Secretary Marcelo Ebrard, an informed U.S. official told Efe news. The meeting is now tentatively set for Friday.

The Japan-America-India meeting or JAI, at the summit level with Abe, Trump and Modi, will be the second of its sort-the first occurred in December on the edges of the G20 summit in Argentina.

A US administration official confirmed the meeting to Reuters, saying, "It's not a formal summit, but it is expected to be a conversation that will focus primarily on regional security issues, including Iran, Ukraine, Syria, the Middle East".

The meeting with Xi is expected to take place on Saturday, the last day of the summit.

In Monday's letter, House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings wrote that he wants to know "why the White House has failed to answer the questions raised in a letter I sent more than three months ago seeking information about troubling reports that President Donald Trump may have violated the Presidential Records Act by confiscating and destroying documents to keep secret the details of his meetings" with Putin, CNN reported.

"The president is quite comfortable with any outcome" of the meeting with Xi, said another USA official.

Trump will also sit down with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman for talks that are especially timely given the soaring tensions between the United States and Iran. They will likely be accompanied by four or five officials each.

When asked if Trump was planning a visit to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on the border of North and South Korea, the official neither confirmed nor denied.
