It is reported that Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy has assembled an all-star cast for his Netflix feature adaptation of the Broadway musical-comedy The Prom, with Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Ariana Grande and James Corden on board.

"In Prom, Streep will play Dee Dee Allen, a two-time Tony victor who teams with Corden's Barry Glickman in a flop musical about Eleanor Roosevelt". After career-ending reviews, they decide - along with Broadway babies Kidman as Angie Dickinson and Rannells (Book of Mormon) as Trent Oliver - to champion a cause to rehabilitate their careers.

The movie will hit theaters in the fall of 2020 for a planned awards season run.

Murphy inked a five-year deal with streaming giant Netflix last year that also includes new series and documentaries.

Its Broadway counterpart premiered in October 2018 and has been nominated for six Tony Awards in total including Best Musical.

Per Deadline, the cast of the adaptation - a film Murphy will direct for the streaming service - is starting to come together, and it's nearly surreal how many big names are already in the lineup. Keegan-Michael Key will reportedly play Streep's love interest, Principal Hawkins, while Ocean's 8 and Crazy Rich Asians breakout Awkwafina is said to be stepping in as the foursome's publicist.

Murphy will produce the film with Alexis Woodall, Bill Damaschke, and Dori Berinstein from a screenplay written by Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin, with the latter screenwriter penning the music and lyrics with Matthew Sklar.
