Joe Biden leads as top choice in the Democratic nomination

Sanders has been amplifying his embrace of government-centered solutions to policy problems in advance of the Democratic presidential debates Wednesday and Thursday in Miami, Florida.

Asked if he'd rather face Clinton again, the president said, "I would actually rather run against Biden" because "Sleepy Joe". SC has eight historically black colleges and universities (HBCU), and Harris attended another, Howard University, in Washington.

California Sen. Kamala Harris took a prosecutor's case straight at President Donald Trump as she campaigned in SC.

She didn't mention front-runner Joe Biden.

The senator promises expanded background checks and other gun restrictions. "Well guess what? At least there was some civility". She's one of two major black Democratic candidates.

The candidates in SC offered remarks at a fish fry hosted by US House Majority Whip James Clyburn on Friday night, battling bugs and the sticky summer heat to shake hands with voters.

"It is time to go on the offensive with Roe versus Wade, it's not enough to say we'll rely on the courts, we need to pass a federal law to make Roe versus Wade the law of the land", said US Senator Elizabeth Warren.

The proposal, which comes ahead of this week's Democratic debates, would also provide states $48 billion annually to eliminate undergraduate tuition and fees at public colleges and universities, a long-standing Sanders campaign promise.

Drawing sustained applause, Warren yelled her way through much of her 1-minute speech at Rep. Jim Clyburn's fish fry in SC. "We have for the first time in the modern history of this country a younger generation that if we don't change it, and we intend to change it, will have a lower standard of living than their parents, more in debt, lower wages than their parents, unable to buy the house that they desire".

Yang declared, "The opposite of Donald Trump is an Asian man who likes math", prompting chants of, "Andrew!" "He could be less genuine and say, 'We're just going to do all these things.' But we already have a president like that".

Gillibrand is promising to "take on the battles others won't", adding of President Donald Trump, "The best way to take on a bully is to stand up to him". SC will host the first primary in the South on February 29, 2020. O'Rourke named key parts of the state where the black population is concentrated.

Last month, the Trump administration also blacklisted Huawei and accused the Chinese company of acting against USA interests. Last month, Commerce last month added telecommunications giant Huawei to it, heightening tensions with Beijing.

SC will be the fourth state to hold a primary contest early next year, the first in which a significant proportion of the Democratic electorate - about 60 per cent - is black.

Biden has a multi-decade Senate career and was the most recent Democratic vice president. The last few weeks on the campaign trail have been steamy for some candidates at odds, but they managed to keep all tensions under control at the SC event.

Biden told more than 1,500 attendees that he's "been in every one of your counties over the years".

Many of the Democratic candidates attending the fish fry echoed the sentiment that once the primary is over the party should unite behind its nominee.

At Clyburn's invitation, 21 Democrats seeking their party's presidential nomination will address a crowd in downtown Columbia on Friday night. Their remarks were capped at just a minute, so the Saturday events offered a chance for more detailed exchanges.

On Saturday, Biden sat for his first cable news interview since launching his campaign, speaking at length with Rev. Al Sharpton during MSNBC's coverage of the South Carolina Democratic Convention.

Biden's campaign did not comment on the group's plan for the ad.

"We've been on defense for 47 years and it's not working", Massachusetts Sen.

"Joe Biden's past statements and positions on race issues present a serious challenge to his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination according to our polling", Club for Growth President David McIntosh said in a statement to Reuters.
