Sacramento police officer killed during domestic call

"Our officers maintained cover in safe positions until we were able to get an armored vehicle in the area", police Sgt. Vance Chandler said.

"She made you smile - she is exactly what we need in the police force", said Robert Nelson, the university president. He was being held without bail pending his next court appearance scheduled for June 24.

Police have said O'Sullivan was assisting a woman removing belongings from a home in the north Sacramento neighborhood when the suspect shot her.

The rifleman kept shooting for at least two hours and as of late Wednesday night, Chandler said negotiators hadn't been able to contact him.

A judge twice granted domestic violence restraining orders against Ramos at his wife's request in 2004 and 2007, court records show.

The California Association Highway Patrol Credit Union has created a memorial fund for the officer, the Sacramento Bee reported. The couple, who had been married for a decade before separating, also have a granddaughter.

"She had one of these bubbly personalities that always wanted to help", said Peletta.

A regard of the man's Facebook profile revealed Ramos working as a foreman for a Carpenter Union and originally hailing from the Philippines. Peletta said at the news conference he could not comment on whether she could have been saved had she arrived at the hospital sooner. She died at a hospital.

O'Sullivan had been part of the first class of graduates of Sacramento State's Law Enforcement Candidate Scholars program in 2017 and went on to the Sacramento Police Academy.

Ocasio-Cortez sides with Booker over Biden's segregationists comments
However, Biden did pick up the phone to speak with Booker following the former's Wednesday evening demand that he apologize. Speaking at a fund-raiser Tuesday (June 19) in New York, Biden cited his relationships with Sens.

Thor Eells, executive director of the National Tactical Officers Association, says it could easily take almost an hour for an armored vehicle to get to a shooting scene to provide cover.

Officers trying to reach the wounded officer in a yard were at first pinned down as a man with a rifle shot from another home, KTXL-TV reported.

They described her as someone who took on the physical training aspects of the program with vigor, even though she was small in stature. According to authorities, they identified five cops-officers with between three and five years of experience-as having fired their weapons during the incident.

Both officers, Steinberg said, "were committed to serving selflessly".

"As a father of a 25-year-old daughter", he said, "I grieve with you". The officer's body lay in the backyard because the gunman kept firing.

She eventually was rushed to UC Davis Medical Center where she died.

At around 1am, the gunman barricaded inside the house signaled that he would be willing to surrender. Ramos did not surrender until around 2 a.m. on Thursday morning.

O'Sullivan's death marks the second time this year a young woman was killed months after graduating from the Sacramento Police Academy. Sullivan was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance call in North Sac today.
