Trump struck a collaborative tone during a meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday, as the US president hailed a deal with two countries whose trade practices he's regularly criticized in the past.

"The day after the election, it would win with tremendous support but we have an election coming up", he said.

Pelosi presented Trudeau with a basket of California wine and chocolate at a joint news conference with the Prime Minister at the US Capitol.

Mexico has ratified the new deal, leaving the USA and Canada to do the same.

In the end, it comes down to whether House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., will bring to a vote a bill that would implement changes necessary to enact the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

Trump may say that he and Trudeau are friends in front of the camera, but Trudeau's body language tells an entirely different story.

The White House also took steps that would allow the administration to submit legislation necessary to implement the trade deal in time for lawmakers to vote before the August recess, if they so choose.

House Democrats have called for stronger labor, environmental, and pharmaceutical provisions and a stronger enforcement system for the USMCA.

The US company couldn't have hoped for a stronger endorsement to win back trust from wavering customers and a jittery public. Now, Boeing appears to be rebounding at the flawless time, with the Paris Air Show taking place this week.

"We're here, let's go see Trudeau up in Ottawa".

It was not clear exactly who would attend the meeting or when it would happen.

"I fully respect the conversations and discussions going on in their ratification process", he said.

Whether the Raptors would accept a potential invite or follow the lead of the Warriors is an open question though.

Trudeau said that he and Trump have been able to maintain their focus on the "things that matter in this relationship".

Moving forward, it has real ramifications for Canada's standing on the world stage and it gave Trudeau a much-needed jolt domestically as he heads into an October federal election.

Speaking to reporters as he and Trudeau sat in the Oval Office, Trump vowed to do whatever he could do to help Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig when he meets China's President Xi Jinping at next week's G20 leaders' summit in Japan, if Trudeau - as expected - asks for his help.
