Apple recalls 15-inch MacBook Pro batteries that may overheat

There was a video that went viral on Twitter, spotted by MacRumors, of a MacBook Pro that caught on fire due to an apparent battery failure.

Apple is recalling its 2015 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, citing a potential "fire safety risk" that could result from the battery overheating.

Apple added that no other 15-inch MacBook Pro units or other Mac notebooks are affected by the recall.

While the country experiences annual melting from June through August, the rate so far this year has been record-breaking. The total ice loss is estimated at two billion tons, according to CNN .


Apple has issued a recall for some of its 15-inch MacBook Pro units. Even if you're not totally sure if your laptop is impacted, it's probably a good idea to double check. "Affected units were sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017 and product eligibility is determined by the product serial number", the company said in a statement this morning.

Determine which 15-inch MacBook Pro you have by confirming the model. Owners can see if their model is affected by punching the serial number into an Apple site. The company said it will replace the batteries in these models at no charge.
