Gay Hell: Eljah Daniel, a 24-year-old YouTuber and musician bought the town Hell in MI in the United States and renamed it to Gay Hell to protest against President Donald Trump's policy of banning pride flags at American embassies.

"I am now the owner of Hell, Michigan.

His first act as the town's owner was to make rainbow-colored flags, which represent the LGBTQ+ community's pride-the only flags that are allowed to be put up in the town.

The Trump administration moved to ban pride flags at US embassies at the beginning of the month, with US Vice President Mike Pence citing it as "the right decision".

Daniel then clarified his flag rule is intended as a joke and there will not be a ban on other flags, Daniel told NBC News.

"I have a young audience who is 16 to 24 who would not be involved in politics if it wasn't in a amusing or meme way", Daniel said to NBC. "It's the way I get my audience interested", he explained. John Colone, the town's unofficial mayor who also runs the town for tourists, told Mashable that Elijah ownership of the town is only temporary. During his first time as mayor, he banned heterosexual people from entering the town.

Gay Hell, which is about 20 miles northwest of Ann Arbor, has been on sale for years.

Mr Daniel said he couldn't discuss details of the purchase, but that the town of Gay Hell is "here to stay".

Some U.S. embassies were denied permission by the Trump administration to fly the rainbow flag to mark LBGTQ Pride month, according to CNN.

The newly-rebranded town is a five acre commercial property and was on the market for US$900,000 in 2016, the Detroit Free Press reported at the time.
