The five teenagers were wrongfully convicted and sentenced to prison for gang-raping and almost killing Meili.

Said Trump to Ryan: "Why do you bring that question up now?"

In 1989, a woman was beaten, raped, and left for dead in New York's Central Park. "It's an interesting time to bring it up", he said.

In 2002, after the boys had spent years in prison, a serial rapist named Matias Reyes confessed to the attack.

He then made a comment reminiscent of a statement he made in August 2017 following the deadly white nationalist riots in Charlottesville, Virginia, when he said: "both sides" were to blame for the violence, a reference to the anti-fascist demonstrators.

Trump, had at the time, taken full-page newspaper ads to call for the death penalty for the teenagers - Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, and Korey Wise.

In 2014, the five men convicted (who served 6-14 years in prison) settled with the city of NY for $41 million.

Four suspects to face murder charges for downing of MH17 - relatives
Charges against the four will be brought after their names are made public by the Joint Investigation Team, Zerkal said. Worldwide investigators are holding a press briefing in Amsterdam to present their latest findings on the MH17 case.

"If you look at Linda Fairstein and if you look at some of the prosecutors, they think that the city never should have settled that case - so we'll leave it at that", he added, referring to the former prosecutor who was running the Manhattan district attorney's sex crimes unit at the time.

Trump still won't admit he was wrong calling for the execution of the Central Park 5.

While May ended with the premiere of Ali Wong's Netflix comedy, Always Be My Maybe, it also saw the debut of director Ava DuVernay's gut-wrenching mini-series, When They See Us.

New York City reached a roughly $41-million United States settlement with the five without admitting wrongdoing.

"Bring back the death penalty, bring back our police!"

Trump has never apologized for his role in exacerbating the heightened emotions of the case.
