Three Indian varsities among top 200 globally

IIT-Bombay has emerged as the country's best university for the second consecutive year, rising ten places in the 2019 QS World University Rankings.

"It is a proud moment that in the prestigious QS ranking, IIT-Bombay, IIT-Delhi and IISc Bangalore have been included in the list of top 200 global universities", tweeted Minister for Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.

Tel Aviv University broke into the world's top 20 institutions of higher learning in the Citations per Faculty indicator, which measures the impact of the research produced. The O.P. Jindal Global University, founded in 2009, is the only new entrant in the list this year, ranking in the 751-800 band.

Among other Universities are Banaras Hindu University (rank 801-1000), Aligarh Muslim University (rank 801-1000), Jamia Millia Islamia (rank 751-800), University of Calcutta (rank 801-1000) and University of Mumbai (rank 801-1000). They are the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at number one with an overall score of 100, Stanford University at number 2 with an overall score of 98.4 and Harvard University at number 3 with an overall score of 97.4.

A total of six universities in Israel are represented in the latest 2020 ranking, three of which climbed while three others declined.

At the fourth place is UK's University of Oxford with an overall score of 97.2 and California Institute of Technology (Caltech) of the United States is at number 5 position in Global QS World University Rankings 2020 with an overall score of 96.9.

The new index also reported that the American University in Dubai had dropped from the 561-570 category to the 601-650 bracket.

Asia's top universities are National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University (both ranked 11th).

Latin America's highest-ranked university is the Universidad de Buenos Aires, which, placing 74th, is the continental leader for the fifth consecutive year.

Each year, QS ranks the world's top 1,000 universities based on academic reputation, employer reputation, citations from faculty, worldwide student ratio and faculty to student ratio. The university ranked fifth in the Middle East & Africa. This is typically reflected in our rankings by the indicator measuring citations per faculty. The institute has achieved a ideal score of 100/100 for QS's Citations per Faculty metric and is also the first Indian institution ever to see its research cited more than 100,000 times in a five-year period.
