Flyers Acquire D Matt Niskanen from Capitals for D Radko Gudas

Philadelphia is retaining 30 percent of Gudas' salary in the final year of his contract.

"We're very happy to have Matt join the Flyers", Philly general manager Chuck Fletcher said through a team release.

Hagelin is coming off a four-year, $16 million contract signed with the Anaheim Ducks in 2015.

"Matt is a consummate professional and was a big part of our success", MacLellan said.

Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan said Friday the deal provides the team with financial flexibility. I see myself as a real good support piece for one of these young guys who's really talented, and maybe together we can be a real formidable pair with some good balance of puck moving, defending well, using our legs, adding to the offense, all that good stuff. This sheds $3.405 million total for this season with the Capitals in need of re-signing a few key players. Niskanen, who will turn 33 on December 6, has two seasons to go on his big free agent deal from the summer of 2014, when he left the Pittsburgh Penguins to join the Caps.

Iran has denied being involved in the attacks and accused the U.S. of promoting an "Iranophobic" campaign against it. Iran has repeatedly warned it would block the Strait of Hormuz if it can not sell its oil because of U.S. sanctions.

He did not win any Stanley Cups with Pittsburgh, but was of course a member of the 2017 Washington Capitals Stanley Cup Championship.

He was largely disappointing during his time in Philadelphia.

It certainly doesn't hurt that Ivan Provorov, Travis Sanheim, Shayne Gostisbehere, Samuel Morin and Robert Hagg are all left-handed shots. The newly acquired 12-year veteran also brings more point production than Gudas, scoring 25 points (8 Goals, 17 Assists) in 80 games this past year in a down season.

"This is a guy that has played over 1,000 games in the National Hockey League when you factor in his playoff experience", Fletcher said Saturday on a conference call.
