Daniel James Signs Five-year Contract with Manchester United

"Manchester United is delighted to confirm the signing of Daniel James from Swansea City, subject to global clearance", the club said on its website on Wednesday.

Manchester United have announced the signing of Daniel James from second-tier Swansea City.

The 21-year-old became the first arrival of the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era at the 20-time English champions after Manchester United confirmed the transfer on Wednesday night. "This is the flawless environment for Daniel to continue his development", Solskjaer said.

He has enjoyed a breakout season in the Championship at Swansea City, scoring five goals and providing seven assists. A potential move to Leeds collapsed in January and he was also linked with Brighton but United landed the player in a £15m deal this summer that could rise to £18m.

The player celebrated his success but is sad because he lost his father about a month ago.

The Welshman claims Manchester United is "the flawless place" for him to develop.

James can effectively play on the right flank as well and at times, Swansea even used him in the center forward role last season.

"I think we need to be focused from the first day, to prepare physically and to be ready mentally for the season which is in front of us", he told United's website".

He wasn't able to celebrate his achievement with his father.

James said: "This is one of the best days of my life and a challenge I am really looking forward to".

"However, given the level of those performances and the fact he has one year remaining on his contract, it was inevitable that once a club of the calibre of Manchester United came calling it would be virtually impossible to hold on to him".

Daniel James has also been speaking about his move to Old Trafford.

James told the club website: "I think the ambition they've got for the club is awesome for the next few years - to get players in who are hungry and ready to work hard".
