Red Sox Retired legend David Ortiz survives gunshot in Dominic Republic

Luis Rivas-Clase, a suspect in the David Ortiz shooting, is believed to be the same man wanted by Pennsylvania authorities on a charge of an attempted homicide. The victim, who was shot in the lower back, told authorities that Rivas-Clase threatened to have him killed a few days before the shooting, according to the Berks County sheriff's office.

As new footage shows the suspects being protected by armed police as they get escorted inside a police building, "The Surgeon" is still on the run while also being wanted in the United States for an attempted murder a year ago in Pennsylvania. Mola Lenghi reports from Santo Domingo.

Dominican police identified suspects in the David Ortiz shooting as, top row from left, Rolfy Ferreyra, aka Sandy, the alleged shooter; Joel Rodriguez de la Cruz, aka Squiddy; Oliver Moises Mirabal Acosta; and Eddy Vladimir Feliz Garcia, aka The Package. Dominican authorities didn't say who ordered the hit, or why.

Late Thursday, police in the Dominican Republic arrested three more people in connection with the shooting, bringing the number of people in custody to nine.

"It wasn't supposed to be David", he said, his words translated from Spanish.

Ortiz, who was shot in the back, remains at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was flown after hours of surgery in the Dominican Republic earlier this week.

CNN reported Friday afternoon that authorities in the Dominican Republic disputed the report, saying Cruz had admitted to them that Ortiz was the target of the attack.

Ortiz has been able to sit up and take some steps, and he is expected to recover from his wounds. Ortiz underwent surgery and in stable condition now. Fans have been anxious about Ortiz's condition but as it stands, he is doing just fine and will make a full recovery.

According to his daughter, Ortiz is only eating ice right now, but his "Even the toothpaste tastes good here" quip suggests he's grateful for the care he's getting, and Alex rightly wants others to adopt her dad's persistent optimism.

The Red Sox were also informed about the mishap and they were quick to raise a helping hand towards Ortiz.
