Shoppers at standstill as Target addresses issues with checkout system


A widespread outage affecting registers at Target stores is causing havoc nationwide Saturday.

In a tweet, Target said that it's "aware that guests are now unable to make purchases at Target stores".

Complaints via social media have been made across the country about long lines at check-out aisles as Target's problems apparently center around its check-out registers.

The hashtag #targetdown was trending worldwide on Twitter.

"Our teams are troubleshooting now and we apologize for the inconvenience, " the retailer tweeted bit.ly/2WKO1HY, adding that it would provide an update soon.

The cash registers have been down for more than 30 minutes, according to employees at Target stores on Grand River and in Farmington Hills.

Customers at individual stores reported that employees handed out snacks and beverages to people waiting in line at the offline registers.

"Employees handing out chips", tweeted Hunter Sowards, an anchor for KTRE News in Texas, sharing a video from inside a store.
