Leo Messi earned more money than Cristiano Ronaldo: Forbes top 100

Virat Kohli is back on the Forbes World's 100 Highest-Paid athletes list, making him the only Indian on to feature in the rankings, once again.

Business magazine Forbes released its list of the top 100 highest paid athletes on Tuesday, which combines prize money, salaries and endorsements between June 2018 and June 2019.

Out of Kohli's earnings of $25 million, endorsements amounted to $21 million - more than 80 per cent of the total. However, despite an increase of United States dollars 1m in endorsements, he has fallen from the 83rd rank that he held on the 2018 list.

Argentine and FC Barcelona soccer star Lionel Messi is listed as this year's highest earner with $127 million ($92 million in salary/winnings and $35 million in endorsements).

That put Messi ahead of long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo, the Juventus and Portugal star who was second with earnings of $109m.

Tiger Woods just missed out on the top 10 with $63.9 to earn the No. 11 spot.

The top 100 includes athletes from 25 countries and their $4bn (£3,1bn) combined earnings are up 5% from the previous year, when Mayweather was first with $285m.

Virat Kohli is now leading his side in World Cup 2019 which is being held in England and Wales.

Cristiano Ronaldo sits in the No. 2 spot with $102 million, while Neymar racked in $105.

Tennis player Roger Federer was the fifth highest-earner on $93.4m.

In terms of sponsorship, Ronaldo earns more than Messi and Neymar, taking home 38 million Euros a year from deals with sponsors.
