Cyclone Vayu: 2.15 lakh people evacuated in Gujarat

The MeT department said, the Cyclone is very likely to cross the Gujarat coast between Veraval and Diu by early tomorrow morning. "There are three groups of lions living in low lying areas".

He also appealed to people to cooperate in the evacuation process so that there is no loss of life. Rescue teams of State Disaster Response Force, Army, Coast Guard and BSF are also on stand by.

Based on the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) advice, Great Danger 8 (GD-8) signal has been hoisted at Porbandar and Okha ports, while GD-9 signal has been hoisted at Diu, Veraval, Navlakhi, New-Kandla, Sikka, Mundra, Madvi and Jakhau ports. Diving and rescue teams and relief materials have been kept on standby for rendering assistance to civil authorities, as required, another official said.

As a precautionary measure, the Indian Railways has announced that all the trains for this region have been either short-terminated or cancelled for two days, starting 6 pm Wednesday.
