Italy shocks Australia with 95th-minute score

Juventus' Bonansea pounced on a awful first touch from Clare Polkinghorne to race through and level for the Italians 11 minutes after the break after hotshot striker Sam Kerr had rammed home the opener for the Matildas on the rebound from her own 22nd-minute penalty.

Kerr has scored 32 times at the global level, already tied for fourth all-time in Australian history, and the 25-year-old figures to smash Lisa De Vanna's record of 47 by the time she's through.

Bonansea got past Australian captain Sam Kerr with a header that caught goalkeeper Lydia Williams off guard in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Sam Kerr had opened the scoring for the clash, missing a penalty kick from the spot before knocking home the loose ball off the rebound.

The second-half ran in complete contrast to the first.

The centre back's heavy touch was scooped by Bonansea, who wrong-footed Alanna Kennedy, before smashing a right-footed strike between Emily van Egmond and Walker into the bottom right corner of the net.

Daniela Sabatino thought she had won the game for Italy after squeezing a shot past the goalkeeper, only for another offside call to deny her the victor.

Brazil will look to keep their momentum as they face the Matildas on June 13, before Jamaica and Italy face off in Reims on June 14.

Plenty were left questioning coach Ante Milicic's team selection, tactics and substitutions as the Matilda's have now conceded 10 goals in their last 3 games.

There was no place in the team for key midfielder Elise Kellond-Knight, who has battled leg injuries over the past fortnight.

Australia will now need a result when they take on Brazil in their second match in four days time.
