Gillibrand wallops de Blasio for president in latest poll

Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Indiana, are now at double digits, at 15 percent and 14 percent, with Sanders only besting both with 16 percent.

This latest Des Moines Register/Mediacom/CNN Iowa Poll was conducted between June 2 and June 5 and is based upon telephone interviews with 600 registered voters in Iowa who reported they will definitely or most likely vote in the Democratic caucuses next February.

"We must present a bold vision for the future, but we also must acknowledge that the most effective charge Republicans can level against us is 'socialism, '" he said.

Almost 20 Democratic presidential candidates are scheduled to gather in Iowa Sunday in what amounts to an early effort to demonstrate potential in the leadoff 2020 caucus state.

That, and other parts of the former DE senator's long record, create an opportunity for the Sunday Democratic gathering's many devout abortion-rights supporters to dial up their so-far more muted criticisms of Biden to an influential audience.

So far, the mayor's 2020 presidential campaign has produced more mockery than actual support, which is undetectable in polling.

Biden and Sanders have fallen in first and second in almost every poll conducted since March.

De Blasio and Miramar, Florida Mayor Wayne Messam were the only two candidates in the field of 23 candidates to not be listed as either a first or second choice for president by one of the respondents.

This time, there are 24 Democrats running in the Democratic primary race, and 19 are participating in the multi-candidate event from Cedar Rapids, Iowa Sunday afternoon. Her favorability rating - 71 percent - is better than anyone else in the race. The president will also visit the state Tuesday for a party fundraiser.

"I understand that there are some well-intentioned Democrats and candidates who believe that the best way forward is a "middle-ground" strategy that antagonizes no one, that stands up to nobody and that changes nothing", said Sen.

Iowa is the first battleground in every presidential election.

He also claimed that "I think we have a very strong chance of being the candidate who will defeat the worst president in the modern history of this country, Donald Trump".

"The only thing we can do is to look at that show that this president has created - whatever you want to call it reality, horror show, game show and we are going to change the channel to something completely different", he said.

"You go through your county fairs, but only so many get to go to the state fair and then only so many get a ribbon", Mr. Sullivan said.
