Putin says 'role of dollar' should be revisited in global trade

Xi arrived in Moscow on Wednesday for a three-day visit with Putin and described the Russian president as his "best friend" during a meeting at the Kremlin.

Putin said he looks forward to more Chinese tourists to St. Petersburg and Russian Federation at large.

The trip comes five years after Moscow's annexation of Ukraine's Crimea peninsula led to a serious rift with the West and a move towards Russia's neighbour to the east.

Russian President Vladimir Putin slams United States moves against Chinese tech giant Huawei on Friday.

Xi has made important contributions to advancing the profound development of Russia-China relations, launched a series of important initiatives with regard to global relations, and made personal efforts to advance their implementation, Putin said, noting that Xi's proposal of jointly building the Belt and Road has drawn worldwide support and involvement.

Speaking at an economic forum also attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping, Putin condemned "the situation around the company Huawei that they are attempting not just to squeeze but to unceremoniously push out of the global market".

Speaking on the same panel, Slovakia's Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini said he hoped that the European Union would not be drawn into a trade war with the United States, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said it was important that the U.S. and China do not slide into a new Cold War.

United States travel restrictions hit Cuba's private sector
Cruise travel from the Cuba began in May 2016 and then became the most popular form of US leisure travel to the island. It was opened in 2011 as part of the Caribbean nation's small market-oriented reforms to open up the private sector.

Noting that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Xi said China, as the world's largest developing country and a responsible major country, has been unswervingly fulfilling its commitment to sustainable development and attached great importance to enhancing global cooperation on sustainable development.

Xi called for world powers to protect the global multilateral trade system. "President Trump is my friend and I am convinced he is also not interested in this", Mr Xi said.

Trump ordered tariffs of up to 25% on hundreds of billions of dollars' worth of Chinese exports and his administration is preparing to extend them to $300 billion more - nearly all items shipped to the US from China.

During his visit, Xi was awarded an honorary doctorate from Russia's St. Petersburg State University, Putin's alma mater, which wrote another episode of exchanges between Chinese and Russian heads of state, as well as in the fields of people-to-people exchanges and education, Wang said.

He called for joint efforts in creating an open world economy, people-oriented and inclusive societies, and a handsome homeland with harmonious coexistence between human and nature, so as to hold the "golden key" of sustainable development to solve global problems.

China will follow the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy and make unremitting efforts to promote the building of a new type of worldwide relations and a community with a shared future for mankind, and open up new prospects for China's diplomacy in the new era, so as to make more significant contributions to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation as well as peace and development of the world, Wang said.
