Amber weather warning for rain issued in London and south east

The weather pattern will turn active again by next weekend with returning chances for thunderstorms. The clouds will thicken and yield showers. Most of the day will be cloudy but there is a chance for some light showers and drizzle throughout the day, so make sure you have your umbrella close by.

Kent County Council said: "This rain will continue throughout today although some places may see some drier conditions at times during the afternoon".

"Down the western side of the United Kingdom it is going to be a bright start to the day for most places but we have got this heavy persistent rain that has pushed in from the southeast".

Sat: High: 86 Low: 66 Partly cloudy, breezy, overnight storms possible.

Some areas could see between one and two inches of rain falling in one day, the equivalent of a month's rain for June.

The big weather story today, will be the gusty northerly winds behind the cold front and the much cooler temperatures.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny and warm.
