Sir Winston prevails in Belmont Stakes

Sir Winston was the first horse across the finish line on Saturday at the 151st running of the Belmont Stakes in Elmont, N.Y. Though this was the third leg of the sport's yearly Triple Crown, there were no Triple Crown contenders at Belmont.

The win gave trainer Mark Casse a second Triple Crown win this season. But no one finished stronger than Sir Winston, who was guided by jockey Joel Rosario to win the 151st Belmont.

Race favorite Tacitus was second and Joevia was third in Saturday's contest.

Rosario also rode Tonalist to a Belmont win in 2014.

As Sir Winston moved off the rail at the start of the stretch, War of Will and Tacitus bumped slightly.

"They all better watch out for Sir Winston, especially at 10 furlongs".

Fellow long-shot Joevia exploded out of the gate from the No. 1 position for an early lead and held first place into the final stretch before War of Will, a noted victim of the 2019 Kentucky Derby's controversially penalized interference by disqualified champion Maximum Security, made up ground. Country House was the Kentucky Derby victor after Maximum Security was moved from first to 17th for impeding other horses during the race.

For the third time in four years, the Triple Crown races had three different winners.

Throughout the day on Saturday, New Yorkers stepped out in style at Belmont Park to spend a day at the races.

The colorful horse racing themed outfit was one of many that featured bold prints.

Of course, among the thousands who traveled down the to tracks in Long Island, a large proportion were dressed in colorful ensembles.
