14 lions escape from South Africa's national park

A pride of 14 lions is on the loose near a mining community bordering South Africa's Kruger National Park, officials said Friday, and warned members of the public to be alert.

"We are now still tracking where exactly they managed to escape from the Kruger National Park, but at the moment they are roaming around Foskor mine around Phalaborwa", Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET) spokesperson Zaid Kalla said.

Kruger National park is one of the largest game reserves on the continent.

Kruger National Park is home to about 1,000 leopards, as of 2010. The boy was rushed to a hospital by family members and pronounced dead on arrival, park officials said.

Two-year-old Courtney Ntimane was at his father's cottage at the Malelane technical services living quarters in Kruger National Park when he was attacked and killed by a leopard on Wednesday night.

The Kruger National Park has planned to counsel for the family of the 2-year-old and added that they will help in the funeral. The leopard was later tracked and shot in other to prevent the animal from harming another person.
