An engaged Maryland couple was found dead there five days later. It said the guests were in different hotels-Schaup-Werner at the Luxury Bahia Principe Bouganville, Day and Holmes at the Grand Bahia Principe La Romana-and that people should avoid "speculation and conjecture" about the case of the dead couple.

Other stories about Grand Principe have also emerged as news of the three deaths circulated: a Colorado couple said they got severely ill at Grand Bahia Principe La Romana in June 2018 and cited a diagnosis that pointed to the sickness being caused by pesticides used at the resort; a relative of another Pennsylvania woman said she died at the same resort in June 2018 from a supposed heart attack; and a Maryland woman said her husband died in the Dominican Republic past year in a similar fashion to the trio that recently passed away. The three Americans checked into the hotel on the same day, May 25. No violence was involved, the police official said.

In the CNN interview, 29-year-old Kaylynn Knull said news of the recent deaths made her "want to cry".

"They usually take about a month". When the housekeeper came to the room after they called with complaints, they said she "waved her hand" over her nose and immediately walked out.

She says she sympathizes with the other families.

"It should have never happened", Dajuan Holmes-Hamilton said.

Later, the resort said that Schaup-Werner's cause of death had been a heart attack.

Various medications meant to treat high blood pressure were found in the room, police said.

Schaup-Werner was reportedly taking pictures in the room she was sharing with her husband, Dan Werner, in celebration of their wedding anniversary before she took a drink from the minibar.
