By hosting World Environment Day 2019, the Chinese government will be able to showcase its innovation and progress toward a cleaner environment.

According to review papers published by Forum of International Respiratory Societies in February, air pollution can potentially affect every organ and cell in the body. Although one of the most populated countries, they are at the forefront of green/renewable energy, and they now own half the world's electric vehicles and 99 per cent of the world's electric buses.

Guterres noted that to improve air quality, countries must know her enemy, with deaths and illnesses from air pollution causing tiny particles that penetrate defences every time filling the lungs. The second is household air pollution, mainly from cooking and heating with solid fuels and burning kerosene for lighting. I am sure people of this country will enthusiastically participate in it. In India, for example, ambient and household air pollution was attributed to some 1.2 million deaths in 2017, according to a study in The Lancet. During this time, Beijing reported 46 smoggy days, 6.5 times that of normal years. Photochemical smog is another form of air pollution caused by the reaction of solar radiation with airborne pollutant mixtures, Nitrogen Oxides and hydrocarbons. This will protect the health of millions of people, especially in developing countries, and deliver significant economic and environmental knock-on benefits. These stoves dramatically reduce air pollution, save time previously spent gathering fuels such as firewood, and emit fewer greenhouse gases than solid fuel stoves.

Hangzhou, situated in the province of Zhejiang, will host the main event.

After Greta Thunberg started boycotting school in favour of standing outside the Swedish Parliament to hand out flyers, reminding politicians that they pledged to reduce carbon emissions as per the Paris Climate Accord, thousands of students around the world participated in "Fridays for the Future", culminating in a global strike on March 15th, 2019.

A weaker global economy and fading stimulus from the Trump administration's tax cuts is dragging on the USA economy. Markets are betting that the Federal Reserve steps in with at least two and possibly three rate cuts this year.

It also fits easily within the US$100 billion in annual financial assistance that wealthy nations have committed to provide to low-income countries to address the challenges of climate change. My message to governments is clear: tax pollution; end fossil fuel subsidies; and stop building new coal plants.

Dr Dorota Jarosińska: Air pollution is the contamination of the air we breathe, indoors or outdoors, by any chemical, physical or biological agent that modifies its natural characteristics. Today on #WorldEnvironmentDay, we reiterate our commitment to ensure a cleaner planet.

World Environment Day is the UN's principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment.

What are some of these actions anyone can take to reduce air pollution?
