Ash Barty charges into French Open semis

One of the legends of the sport - Gabriela Sabatini is the latest one to join the Barty fan club as the Australian looks to seal a spot in the French Open Semi-finals when she takes on Madison Keys.

Following the rain that washed out the whole of Wednesday's schedule, Barty must now play three matches in as many days to become the first Australian to reach the final in Paris since Samantha Stosur nine years ago.

"This is honestly more than I could ever have asked for", Anisimova, who won her first career title at tour-level on the Bogota clay in April, said on court at the finish.

She is also the youngest American woman to make the last four at a major since Venus Williams at the 1997 US Open, and the youngest to reach the semis at Roland Garros since Jennifer Capriati in 1990.

"Going out there today, I knew that if I wanted it I had to give something different".

"I'm really happy with the performance because it's one of the best matches I've ever played".

Dabrowski and Pavic will face Latisha Chan of Taiwan and Ivan Dodig of Croatia in a rematch of last year's French Open final, won by the latter squad.

"Controlling the points was the key, I think", said 2018 French Open runner-up Thiem, who made only 12 unforced errors, 25 fewer than Khachanov.

Halep's run of breaking in 16 consecutive return games was swiftly ended by Anisimova's big hitting, and the American broke serve in fifth game en route to a 4-2 lead.

Halep, who had thrashed 18-year-old Pole Iga Swiatek 6-1, 6-0 in the fourth round, faced being on the wrong end of a similarly one-sided match when she fell 3-0 down in the second.

But Halep broke back in the seventh game when Anisimova overplayed a backhand down the line.

The 23-year-old was too consistent for American Keys, hitting 16 winners and four aces.

"I definitely have to sacrifice a lot, because I have to travel so much", the home-schooled Amanda told The New York Times in 2017 before making her Grand Slam debut at Roland Garros.

World No.8 Barty took out the first set in under half-an-hour after converting her fourth set point and clinched the match on her first match point.

Anisimova grew in confidence and punished the third seed by angling a forehand slice into the open court for her 11th victor, sealing the first set in fine fashion.
