Trump opens up on reported 'nasty' comment about Meghan Markle

President Trump has sought to set the record straight over calling the Duchess of Sussex "nasty" by insisting that he was merely reacting to one comment of hers which he had not previously heard.

The Trumps are now in the United Kingdom for a three-day state visit and have already had a private lunch with Her Majesty.

The US president's controversial reference to the Duchess of Sussex came in an interview with The Sun, when he was told Ms Markle "wasn't so nice" about him during the 2016 elections.

In a recent interview with The Sun newspaper, Trump said he was unaware that the former Suits star had previously suggested she would leave the USA if he won the 2016 presidential election, adding: "I didn't know that she was nasty".

He called the state banquet at Buckingham Palace one of the highlights of his life and said his late mother "would have been proud" because she was a huge fan of the Queen of England.

When he was asked whether Prince Harry gave him a "frosty" reception, Trump replied saying: "No, no, no, just the opposite".

I went up - he couldn't have been nicer. "In fact I think she's doing very well". [Prince Harry] spent a lot of time talking to Ivanka and talking to my family.

'I think it's a long shot when you say that, you know, I don't, I don't think it's going to happen'. "I think it is nice and I'm sure she will do excellently. But if there's anyone who can handle it, it's her", said Chopra, who reportedly visited Markle following the birth of her child with her husband Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex last month. Trump hit back in an interview with The Sun which made waves around the world.
