Amazon Prime Free One Day see massive response in US

Amazon Prime Free One Day see massive response in US

Amazon just turned up the heat in the three-way battle for dominance atop ecommerce sellers, announcing it has more than 10 million items that are eligible for its new one-day delivery standard via the Prime subscription service.

In addition to one-day shipping, Amazon already offers same-day deliveries on millions of items in 44 major metropolitan areas, as well as its Prime Now program for deliveries in a few hours.

"The most popular one-day items range from books, beauty and baby wipes to devices, dish detergent and doggie bags", the company said in a press release. The company has made one-day delivery possible because it's delivery network has expanded quite a bit over the past twenty years.

Walmart launched free one-day online shipping in Las Vegas and Phoenix, Arizona, just two weeks earlier, albeit for a limited inventory of 220,000 products. "We've strategically grown our network in the U.S.to include 110 fulfillment centers, 40 package sortation centers, 100 delivery stations and 20 air gateways all to be closer to our customers".

Assange to remain in Britain as Swedish court rejects extradition request
The ruling means the Swedish prosecutor can not at this stage request WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's extradition from Britain. Assange denied the charges and also contested that there were grounds for detention, his lawyer, Per Samuelson, told the court.

Furthermore, the company is working on speeding up delivery times in Alaska, Hawaii, and in Puerto Rico, with shipping speeds ranging from one to five days for Prime members.

The increased workload that comes with fulfilling orders in one day could be risky for Amazon's warehouse employees, according to Stuart Appelbaum, president of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union.

There are key differences between the Amazon and Walmart one-day programs. The company announced in its Q1 report for the shareholders that it would invest $800 million in delivery and related logistics this year.

Amazon has confirmed that Prime members can get one-day delivery on more than 10 million products shipped coast to coast. (Although Amazon notes that the speed may vary based on where the products are coming from).
