Border Patrol finds incomplete tunnel under Nogales parking lot

Agents on Thursday apprehended a group of more than 1,000 migrants who crossed illegally in El Paso.

"2,200 apprehensions in 1 day in 1 Sector-Memorial Day was the busiest recent day of enforcement activity for El Paso Sector Border Patrol agents", CBP tweeted.

The agency said it has found 180 groups of more than 100 migrants since October, including 46 large groups in May alone, according to the Associated Press. "Through our continued collaboration and partnership, the US and Guatemala are formalizing a number of initiatives to improve the lives and security of our respective citizens by combating human trafficking and the smuggling of illegal goods, helping to limit "push" factors that encourage risky irregular migration to the USA, perpetuating the ongoing crisis at our border". President Donald Trump has threatened Mexico with tariffs to do more to stop the flow.

Trump posted a Border Patrol video of scores of migrants crossing the Rio Grande riverbed from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico into El Paso, Texas.

It is likely that most of the migrant family units will be released after processing due to overcrowding. To handle this influx of migrants, CBP has erected temporary housing structures near El Paso were the migrants will be detained until they can be processed. In addition to the lack of open space that resulted in detainees wearing soiled clothes and standing on toilets, the watchdog group noted that further limiting available space was the need "to separate detainees with infectious diseases, such as chicken pox, scabies, and influenza, from each other and from the general population". Disease outbreaks have also been a concern when adult migrants are transferred to ICE detention.

The Border Patrol said Friday the tunnel found Wednesday was connected to a storm drain that runs into the United States from Mexico.

As Border Patrol official Hector Escamilla stated at a McAllen speech covered in our previous edition, people from well over 40 nations, including from the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe, are storming the border, adding considerable guesswork, time, and expense in determining who is coming to the US and why-right when the Rio Grande Valley sector's 3,100 Border Patrol agents constitute roughly half of the manpower needed to police the border in the current "non-crisis".
