Sony Confirms PS5 Players Will Be Able To Play With PS4 Players

Speaking with CNET, Sony's Global Head of R&D, Dominic Mallinson, explained the decision to wait on a new VR headset. In fact, there won't be a new PlayStation 5 VR headset until later during the lifecycle of the console.

With Sony's next-generation console to released sometime in the future, tech enthusiasts and the gaming community are also looking forward to what Sony has in store for VR gaming.

We've known that the PlayStation 5 (or whatever it ends up being called when it's revealed, likely later this year) will be backwards compatible with the PlayStation 4, ever since Wire had the very first scoop about what the system might be like. Mallinson is well-aware of this issue and says that they want the PSVR to be lighter in weight, easier to put on and have fewer cables.

But because the sensor is cropping down to 8MP, the effective focal length is 57mm, or a zoom factor of 2.2x. You don't hear many people unhappy with the Huawei P30 Pro camera (112), just a lot of "woahs".

However, Sony's PSVR headset is showing signs of future success. Nevertheless, Mallinson acknowledges that change has to come to this department by saying: "We do recognize that does need to be evolved, and in the future we will obviously replace it". He also did mention implementing eye-tracking software in the headset and the current Move controllers evolving and improving from what they are today.

"We want to create an opportunity for fans of our games to have more touch points with our franchises", added Layden. I think there will come a point in time in the not too distant future when you can not launch a VR headset without eye tracking. With Sony's continued backing on VR, they'll release the next gen PSVR when they think the time is right. "If you are more interested in mixed reality for gaming applications, then I actually think video see through is more compelling and a lot less complicated".
