Facebook Says It Won't Remove Doctored Video of Nancy Pelosi

However, on Friday the social media platform said the video does not technically break any rules because there is not a policy against posting fake content on the platform, according to the Huffington Post. But Facebook also won't take the step of removing material like the doctored Pelosi clip, preferring instead to let users make their own choice about what to believe.

Some at the company would have us all believe that great strides have been made in the platform's ongoing fight against misleading "fake news" content.

Posts claiming Pelosi appears drunk or sluggish during events often make the rounds on social media following her press conferences. "It's not that they can not solve this; it's that they refuse to do what is necessary".

One version of the video posted on a Facebook page called Politics WatchDog was viewed more than 2 million times and was shared more than 50,000 times.

"When the "extremely stable genius" starts acting more presidential, I'll be happy to work with him on infrastructure, trade and other issues", Pelosi's tweet said.

"What if somebody creates a video of President Trump saying, 'I've launched nuclear weapons against Iran, or North Korea, or Russia?' We don't have hours or days to figure out if it's real or not", Farid said.

Facebook said it is reducing its distribution of the Pelosi video but that it doesn't have a policy that stipulates that information you post must be true.

Without reading from a statement, Pelosi discussed infrastructure investments throughout US history.

"PELOSI STAMMERS THROUGH NEWS CONFERENCE", Mr. Trump tweeted, paraphrasing the headline Fox Business displayed.

Cooper questioned Bickert over whether this was an appropriate editorial decision, and even whether Facebook should be in the news business to begin with.

The president's personal lawyer, the former mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani, was among the Trump supporters who promoted the story.
