Julian Edelman, Patriots finalizing multi-year contract extension

According to an NFL Media report, Edelman, the MVP of Super Bowl LIII and a newly minted graduate of Kent State, will soon sign a two-year contract extension that includes a nice bump in pay.

Various reports indicated the Patriots were willing to spend close to $10 million per season on the free agents, so it makes sense that the team would be willing to offer a bit more to a proven performer like Edelman.

ESPN's Mike Reiss then reported that the deal was done, and that it gives $12 million guaranteed to Edelman. He will be surrounded by a group of mostly new faces in 2019, including bigger receivers like rookie N'Keal Harry and veterans Demaryius Thomas, Dontrelle Inman and Maurice Harris along with returners Josh Gordon, if he returns from suspension, and Phillip Dorsett.

His team-best 105 receptions and 1,056 receiving yards were nearly double those of the Patriots' second-leading receiver that year.

Edelman, 32, led the Patriots in receiving yards (850) in 2018 and finished second on the team with 74 receptions, scoring six touchdowns on the year.
