Iranian President Says US Requested Negotiations With Tehran 8 Times

In a rejoinder, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif suggested that Trump "try respect" instead of issuing threats.

Trump's remarks reflect what has been a strategy of alternating tough talk with more conciliatory statements he says is aimed at keeping Iran guessing at the administration's intentions.

Regardless of the bitterly tactful exchange on twitter, tensions between Tehran and Washington appear to be dangerously on the rise following the rocket attack in Baghdad Sunday evening. No injuries were reported.
