Spotify is testing a smart assistant speaker that fits in your vehicle

The Car Thing is a small device that plugs into your car's 12V cigarette lighter and connects to your audio system over Bluetooth. Once it's plugged in and running, it can be used to control audio playback by saying "Hey Spotify".

A screen on the device shows what's playing, while users can select playlists to sync up with each button.

Before you get too excited, you should know that this doesn't mean Spotify will soon be launching some large-scale hardware initiative. In its blog post, Spotify made sure to point out that it wasn't about to go insane with hardware.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have named their newborn Psalm West
Taking to Instagram , Kim shared a screenshot of her chat with West and captioned the same with the name of the newborn. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have posted the first picture of their adorable baby son and revealed his unique name.

Spotify has started testing its first piece of hardware, a music player for your auto that the company has named "Car Thing" and which will apparently serve an even more important objective than going on sale as a mainstream consumer electronics gadget. Car Thing was merely created to gain insight into how Spotify users listen in their cars, and at the moment, there are no plans to make this device commercially available. The Car Thing is essentially a less versatile Anker Roav Bolt powered by an unnamed Google Assistant rival. that's unlikely to ever see daylight on anything resembling a wide scale.

The company today announced its in-car music player, called the Car Thing.

Notably, though, Spotify says that it is not looking at releasing this device for consumers yet, and the test will now only dictate how they will further develop its service experiences. In a blog post, Spotify said it plans to do similar "voice-specific tests" in the future, and it told us not to be surprised if you hear about "Voice Thing" and "Home Thing".
