Alonso fails to make automatic cut for Indy 500

Kaiser's qualification had looked in doubt earlier this week, when he crashed heavily in Friday's practice. We changed everything on the auto because we thought that maybe we need something from the mental different to go into the race with some confidence because yesterday the vehicle even if we were qualifying today, we were not maybe in the right philosophy to race next Sunday, and we went out not knowing what the vehicle will do in Turn 1, but you're still flat. The wall came too close and too quickly.

"No clue what happened to our speed today", Power said.

"We want to earn our place in the field", De Ferran said. "(So I am) happy with things we tried", he told reporters before learning he had not qualified. However, it was subsequently revealed that the Spaniard had suffered a slow puncture which had compromised the handling of the auto.

But Alonso's attempt to add the last remaining piece of the Triple Crown to his trophy cabinet was snuffed out in a dramatic qualifying session.

"(It's) kind of a frantic situation trying to get the auto comfortable for him and he's doing all he can do", said driver coach Johnny Rutherford, a two-time Indy 500 victor for McLaren.

The Spaniard - driving for the McLaren team in his return to the United States for the iconic IndyCar race - was fourth fastest of six drivers who were vying for the remaining three positions on the grid.

"Yesterday, we were 31st instead of 30th", said the Spaniard. "This is incredible. This is the biggest race in the world, so obviously I'm on Cloud Nine".

GOP Rep. Amash becomes first Republican to call for Trump's impeachment
Amash's comments on Saturday with regard to impeachment went further than even many members of House Democratic leadership. Doug Collins says Attorney General William Barr is not jumping to any conclusions.

"Every attempt, I drove with a loose auto and didn't lift", Alonso said. "We certainly didn't underestimate it". Something just got me in 2 - I don't know if it was a gust of wind or what. I've been here before.

"Today is one of those, but I prefer to be here than to be like millions and millions of other people, at home watching TV".

"There's a mixture of emotions going on inside of me, but we are racers".

Kyle Kaiser bumped his way into the Indianapolis 500 Sunday at the expense of Fernando Alonso and McLaren.

"Team Menards and Team Penske have been phenomenal about giving me the best equipment", said Pagenaud, who turned 35 on Saturday. "We will not do that". "It's tough because we're starting last in the field, but we're in the field". It's a shame. I don't know what to say, man. "I've been only in my motorhome and talking with friends or family", said Alonso following the shoot-out. You can only do that if you try. It has been a very long qualifying, almost 56 hours of qualifying from yesterday morning.

"This type of challenge... they can bring you a lot of success and you can be part of the history of the sport or you can be really disappointed", he added.
