Myanmar pilot safely lands plane on its nose after landing gear failure

Aeromexico flight 2431 was departing from Durango, Mexico on July 31, 2018 when it crashed. Twenty people were injured in the accident. "We were notified that only two of the plane's wheels could be released".

Heart in mouth, bystanders were able to film the miraculous emergency landing which was safely - if not gracefully - performed.

Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited said: "Our immediate priority was to take care of passengers and crew members to ensure their safety and well-being".

Myanmar Airlines flight UB-103 - an Embraer-190 model - touched the ground at around 9am in Mandalay, a city popular among foreign tourists. Luckily, everyone walked away unharmed.

The Boeing 377 Stratocruiser flying between Honolulu and San Francisco on October 16, 1956 had to make an emergency water landing when two of its engines failed. The captain successfully landed the airplane in the water and everyone survived.

The dive is part of an initiative to explore the deepest points in each of the world's five oceans. In among the prawn-like creatures, diver Victor Vescovo also found pollution.

The pilot followed emergency procedures, including dumping fuel to reduce landing weight, before touching down on the runway at around 9:00 a.m. local time.

Captain Myat Moe Aung radioed traffic control to check if the wheels had deployed following the technical malfunction.

Myanmar Civil Aviation Department deputy director general Ye Htut Aung told AFP the pilots tried to lower the landing gear manually after the plane's systems failed to do so.

Video apparently was shot by one of the passengers and posted online showed an urgent but orderly evacuation of the passengers and crew.

Just days ago, another plane crash-landed at Myanmar's Yangon Airport, with the aircraft sliding off the runway and injuring 11 people.
